IN LOVING MEMORY

Bart holds an MFA in Directing from The University of Texas at Austin. Through the 80s and 90s, he built scenery and props at IRT, traveled to schools across Indiana performing adaptations of Shakespeare with the Indianapolis Shakespeare Theatre Festival’s troup WILL POWER.

He directed and taught design, creative dramatics and stagecraft at Marian University. Bart also directed plays at the Phoenix Theatre, Theater on the Square, Butler University, and Shakespeare in Garfield Park. He directed Indy Shakes’ first Traveling Troupe production of Macbeth in June 2018. Bart will also be directing the 2019 Traveling Troupe production of Much Ado About Nothing.

For the last sixteen years Bart has designed and built the Haunted House for the Children’s Museum. Bart can also be seen performing in his roll with the BLUE MONKEY SIDESHOW.

S. Bart Simpson

Robert has been a proud member of Indianapolis Shakespeare Company since 2008, some favorites including Prospero in The Tempest, Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, and directing The Winter’s Tale, and Coriolanus.

He has performed in more than 40 productions at the Indiana Repertory Theatre for nineteen seasons. Some favorite shows include Becky’s New Car, The Miracle Worker, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Noises Off, The Diary of Anne Frank, and James Still’s I Love to Eat which he reprised at the 2012 James Beard Foundation Awards at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Robert has appeared locally with the Phoenix Theatre, Cardinal Stages Of Mice and Men as Lennie Small, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Early Music Festival.

Regional credits include Syracuse Stage, American Players Theatre, Pennsylvania Center Stage, and the Oklahoma and Kentucky Shakespeare festivals, to name a few, as well as the English American Theatre Festival in Dusseldorf, Germany.

TV credits include NBC’s Chicago Fire. In December of 2018 Robert completed writing a novel called Will unto Law that he is currently trying to publish.

His training is from Indiana University (BA English Literature), Penn State (Acting MFA), and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (Shakespeare).

He is a recipient of the 2007 Arts Council of Indianapolis Creative Renewal Fellowship, the 2016 Theatre MVP Grant from the Central Indiana Community Foundation and is a 2017 Lunt-Fontanne National Fellow at Ten Chimneys in Wisconsin where he worked with master actor and teacher Alfred Molina.
